Where did you get that? It's not available on Amazon anymore (at least in Germany).

Yes, Jesse is right. I bought it in Amazon's Marketplace from "OKluge" (they have also a web shop on their own). It's a different model than shown in the picture. In addition it has 2 LEDs which shows power and data traffic.

I first tried a 40 Pin IDE Flash Module from Transcend (http://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B00138N ... ge_o09_s00).
It can directly be attached by a small male/female cable. But I didn't get ist to work. It was not detected properly by the OS. There might be some lower limit for the disk space.

Thanks, I somehow bookmarked an Amazon link for this adapter here: http://www.delock.de/produkte/F_367_Ein ... anguage=en

Will get the budget 32 GB SSD then (http://www.amazon.de/Transcend-TS32GPSD ... B00AQT2LCU)

As far as I know this adapter isn't available any more. That was my first choice too, because it ensures a tighter connection between disk and cable.

One HAS to wonder if this might squeeze between the digital expansion board and the main board?

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Industrial-Di ... Sw1x1UMpCw

It's where the IDE host socket is - that connects the Fusion's HD - and also where the SECOND E3 Ram module socket is to be found.

Would be rather fun if it fitted, then the Fusion would appear NOT to have a HD installed . . .

Further to that last post . . .

THIS PATA Option (from my original supplier) looks like it might just fit between the boards.

Noticing the keying on it's female IDE connector - I can't remember which side the matching slot is on the controller socket.

This will determine if it would be entirely between the boards - or stick out on the LHS . . . .

(The two-pin jumper might need to be "bent over" to fit between the boards)

I'm not sure what the Jumper does . . . . . MASTER/SLAVE perhaps? I've emailed AceSupplier to ask . . . .

The Fusion has standard 40 pin connector on the Digital expansion PCB, the 44 pin connector would only work on a drive holder with power supply added to the extra 4 pins, right?

Looks interesting, the link comes up with a 64GB drive.
You are right, the jumper on the PATA SSD drive is for master/slave configuration.

ISTR that this was an issue with Amigas, an 40->44 adapter was produced with a power link to the conventional drive PSU plug. I may even still have CF version knocking around. A down side is that it may prevent physical location of the drive in the Fusion.

Looks neat. Has anyone confirmed if it will fit in a Fusion without problems?

That, as they say, is the question.

Given that an IDE Right-angle RIBBON cable will fit in there, I'm fairly sure it would fit. The position of the cutout in the socket would determine which way it points . . . . i.e. Hidden entirely between the pcbs - or sticking out at the left hand end.

As my Fusions are both working well, you'll understand my reticence to mess with them . . .

To be honest, when I originally bought the SSDs - I had no idea they would work. I "allowed" myself to proceed on the understanding that if they did NOT work in the Fusion - I could use them to upgrade a PC laptop I had at the time - so at least they would get used . . . . .

I'm sure PATA SSDs are already living on borrowed time . . . .
So, two and a half years ago, I bought a PATA SSD and kept it as a spare just in case the HD breaks.
____

Today I finally installed it into my Fusion even though the HD was still working well.

Everything went well and now I have a Fusion running cooler and quieter than ever.
____

Many thanks to parametric for paving the way to the SSD Holy Grail and to Jesse for the detailed instructions about how to upgrade the Fusion (I have opened it twice now, the 1st time to install Sector101 EXM-E3 128MB DRAM modules).

This forum is invaluable.

Well done EXer . . . .

I originally bought two - (so I'd have a spare), but I now have 6HD too, so the spare went into it . . . .

I MUST look and see if they are still available . . . . .

[I just checked. The KingSpec 128Gb PATA SSD is still being sold, although you still get stung on Price,

'cos it's PATA, I suppose? Price around £84]
as at 05/07/2019

Problem is we are stuck with the PATA controller - so whatever solutions might appear, MUST work with that

- as far as the Fusion is concerned . . . .
