The SSD (Holy Grail) can finally be YOURS !

Post by parametric » Sun May 18, 2014 2:13 am

Today I completed this project which has been on my mind for quite some time.

The SSD I used came from China (Where else?)

The supplier (acesupplier11) was excellent - and very communicative. I sent him pics of the Fusion and its existing HD and explained what I was trying to do.

He mailed me back to say that if the drives (In the end I bought two) didn't work with the Fusion, then I could return them for a refund.

Can't say fairer than that!

I promised I would tell him how it turned out - and I will do so first thing Monday.

In the meantime, THIS is the drive I bought and this is the supplier:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/181331185517? ... 1423.l2649

[It might be a plan to mention my name (Chris) and the Fusion when ordering - so he can see where this is all coming from - might get you quicker delivery - mine arrived very quickly (China - UK)]

In due course, I'll produce a document detailing how I proceeded, with description and pics.

The drive was a 128Gb, which formatted in the Fusion, in a flash, to 120Gb (as we know).

There does appear to be a slight improvement in speed when loading, but some tests would be good against against an HDD-equipped Fusion to prove the point . . .

With this mod. your Fusion will weigh a little less - not that you'll notice. The SSD only weighs 75g.

It is very quiet though, which will please users with Studio-bound Fusions. Remaining noise is from the small fan near the PSU.

Folk who wish to Gig their Fusions will also be happy - No more fear of damaging the HD in transit . . .

I would have posted a picture here but this board complains my .jpg is INVALID and crashes the post (4 x)

You can see it here: http://www.yamahaforums.co.uk/forum/vie ... 520#p38217

Best Regards

I'll check with the <admin>. The board HAS recently been updated (like most others) so this might have changed . . . .

At first try, I got a message that the allotted space for pictures was reached, so I searched the board settings and increased the allotted space. We should be good for a while :)

Ah, I see . . . .

(The board SHOULD reply "insufficient space" not "invalid image" - but I don't think you can do anything about that)

I'm not sure how large the document will be yet, as I took quite a few pictures - to make things clear . . .

So I hope it will attach ok.

Document is ready, but I can't attach it . . .

Sorry Guys - I get this error
The attachment’s file size is too large, the maximum upload size is 2 MB.
Please note this is set in php.ini and cannot be overridden.
Can you correct this Jesse?

Otherwise - you can get it here: http://www.yamahaforums.co.uk/forum/vie ... 239#p38239

[EDIT - You can now View/Download the Document from Here: https://app.box.com/files/0/f/0/1/f_18870977773]

I checked with the admin, he says that VIEWING posts and their embedded pics should be no problem, though apparently pictures might be handled separately (The forum's just been updated) so he's gonna check - and fix if poss.

Well thanks! I am thinking of doing the same upgrade to my 6HD. How is the speed of this drive? Can it play all the audiotracks without any hickups? I use audiotracks when i am playing live.

I don't think there's any speed gain as such.

If you do the upgrade though, I'd be very interested to know YOUR impression on this. . . . .

All I can say, is that I played the DEMO songs, some of which have 8 tracks of audio - and they all played back flawlessly. 8)

As you are GIGGING the 6HD, I'd also be interested to know your impression - particularly with respect to the reduced WORRY about knocking/dropping/banging the Fusion during transit :D

I would guess the procedure MAY be more fiddly on the 6HD as everything is SO close together. It'll probably take some careful "teasing" to get the hard disk out without disturbing the wiring . . . . . SO, slow and easy . . . 8)

Best Regards

I just ordered the drive at the same supplier. I don't need the drivebay as the harddrive in the 6HD is mounted directly to the bottom of the synth. Now all i have to order is the connector. How long did it take for the SSD to arrive at your home?
