Questions on SR-18

Question regarding the SR-18. I know I can dump the contents as a backup file to my computre using the MIDI out. Of course, I've not been brave enough to import it back in for fear that it didn't work and all my saved work would disappear. My question is, has anyone figured out a way to import a single user pattern using MIDI? Seems like the MIDI In and Out functions are pretty limited but if I could create a pattern in another app and save it as a MIDI file, it would be nice to be able to import it directly to the SR-18. Recording using the pads or step-edit is pretty time consuming.
