4-Bits Mix - T1, T2 Mystery Controls

Post by 2ManyKeys »

As I noted in another post, I recently used the Fusion's Utility functions to convert the "4-Bits Mix" to a song, as a learning exercise to see how that rather complex mix is constructed.

The first discovery was that the Utility conversion function doesn't completely work. It does transfer much of the Mix structure, but the Arps are not selected properly and some of their parameters, like latching for instance, are not copied either.

After correcting the incomplete 4-Bits Song, I got it to sound and act just like the mix does including modifiers like the switch and trigger buttons.

Here's the mystery. The Mix uses Trigger buttons T1 and T2 to fairly radically change the arps I believe by muting tracks.

I CANNOT figure out where these T1 and T2 assignments are made or how to change them!

Input would be appreciated.

Anyone, anyone? ... Beuller?

Might be helpful to post the mix and song here as a zip or rar file if it's small enough

The 4-Bits Mix is in the ROM at Mix A-4.

I can post the converted song as well.

Hate to bring it up again, but page 217 describes how these assignments are done. I am in front of my 8HD. Step by step, slowly I turned.......(Niagara Falls!) Abbott and Costello

1) From song mode select the "Arp" tab on the left of the screen-now you will see a menu with "Edit Arp" at the right top of the screen. Notice this second screen where the word "Select" is highlighted is also where you will select which arpeggio you are about to program-press "Edit Arp" under the word "Select" and...

2) Now you are at the EDIT Arp screen where you see the options for switching the arp latch on/off-where to make the A/B change if you want to do that-and at the bottom there is what you want...where it says "Modulation routes".

3) Now select-using the previous/next buttons-each of the modulation choices-notice there is initially seemingly only 3 choices-for the foot pedal and S1 and S2, and until you assign a T or S switch-it should say "none" on the far right of this screen. And this is where I've been tripped up before-the Fusion screens sometimes have choices that are not so readily apparent, this is one.

For each of these initial 3 choices-if you highlight each one-first the left side where it says FS function, S1 Function and S2 function-by using the scroll wheel-you can scroll through 8 choices for each of the 3 lines-FS function, FS function (m), S1, S2 and all 4 T switch settings. Now by selecting the "next" button to highlight the word "none"-if there are no assignments yet-you can now scroll through 4 choices-Latch, latch (mask), A/B change and fill. These are the only 4 factory assignments available for the arpeggio you have selected.

Finally once all your assignments are entered-save the song with the store function-if you forget, when you try to switch to another song or mix-the screen will prompt you "Creating or selecting a new song" etc. Do you want to store the changes yes/no. That should do it.

I'm old enough to be familiar with that comedy routine. :D

I gotcha, I have read and absorbed those instructions fairly well and adjusted all these parameters in the Mix and Song.

The mystery is that the 4-Bits Mix does not assign T1 or T2 anywhere in those mod slots! All three Arps use T3, and S1 with S2 assigned to nothing. The choice of T3 seems to be acknowledging that T1 and T2 are already used but how?

I have no idea how those Triggers are being assigned and that really triggers me. :D (I would never use that term seriously but it seemed appropriate here)

T3 and S1are part of at least the timber kit program already-so any switch mod assignment is carrying over into the mix-and the others are being left blank in the mix, I guess this shows-there can only be so many combinations of switches used-whatever is programmed into the individual programs for each track, and then whatever you add in the song or mix. Makes sense.
