Cymbal settings

I have an Alesis DM10 MKII Pro Kit with 2 crash & 1 ride cymbal. What specific settings are you using, especially for 2 crash cymbals. No matter how I tweak them, they sound like crap. I cannot get that nice splash sound like the real thing. I would settle to have them sound just close to the real thing. I can't quite get the ride to sound right either but it isn't nearly as bad as the crash cymbals. I primarily play hard rock music; ACDC, The Darkness, KMFDM, etc. Any suggestions would be great. As it is, I know if I start playing with a band again, I would have to use Zildjians or Sabians & mic them. Thanks!
