Decoding the Fusion mainboard

Post by Jokeyman123 »

As per my prior struggles with this, I have just ordered this scanner....

Without re-inventing the wheel, I just ordered this USB scanner in reference to my prior attempts to obtain the elusive Alesis "service key"-apparently a hardware connecting device that allowed a technician to "read" the barcode printed on each Alesis Fusion, then input the serial number of that Fusion into a newly-installed mainboard, using a specific diagnostic procedure outlined in the service manual.

Without being able to do this, I unveiled a message upon booting up one of my Fusions with a replaced mainboard that the serial number was invalid, although this does not seem to be affecting any of the functions of the 8HD with the replacement mainboard, I have to assume this is just a "nag' screen.

Oddly, after switching my other Fusion's mainboard (yes I am a masochist) I did not get any such message. I'm not even sure if the 6HD and 8HD used the same mainboards, and after all this mess, that might be the simple answer to the serial number mismatch although trying to obtain valid technical information about these Fusions is pretty near impossible. Bob Schmanski, one of the primary techs in on this original Fusion design, is on the Fusion Facebook page and has given me some valuable info, thank you Bob.

Here is another interesting bit, that may or may not work, somehow. I was looking over some of the old Casio keyboards that had a type of "light-pen" scanner used with specific Casios, that when connected to the Casio, would read entire scores (not too well according to reviews I've read). Here...

If I can find the type of interface this pen used, no never mind, this is such a longshot i guess its silly to even try. Wasn't such a terrible idea, for people who did not know how to read and play music..... :violin:
