Some info for new Fusion owners in 2023

Post by Fbunn »

Hi guys,

I just got a fusion 8HD, and wanted a way to get sound fonts into it.
Alesis has a nice page with ALL the official sounds and software:
https://alesis.com/products/view/fusion-8hd

The fusion converter requires Windows XP or Windows 7.
The easiest way to build a Windows 7/XP machine is to use an older Apple MacBook.
Those laptops have a built in feature called 'Boot Camp'. Boot Camp walks you through installing Windows.
The result is a 'dual boot' (choose Mac or Windows) laptop.

This only works with INTEL MacBooks. All you need is a Windows install disk and a spare USB thumb drive.
Boot camp installs all the correct wifi/mouse/display drivers on the thumb drive for you.

I now have a working Windows 7 laptop running Fusion Convertor free :)

why go to the trouble-just get an old Windows 7 machine. I have a few-not much money. a Lenovo T-520 cost me less than $100.00 but that was pre-pandemic price, I'm using it now. And an old Dell precision with a huge 17" screen which again was less than $100 used.

If you know how-I have multiple laptop hard drives-with different versions of Windows installed on each-10, 7, XP. Fusion converter works on all of them. I just slap different drives in when I want to use a different version of Windows. Even have Linux which can run off a bootable thumb drive or CD but converter doesn't run on Linux unless you install the "Wine" virtual Windows machine. Quite a shock how much some versions of the free Puppy Linux looks like Windows 10-years before Windows 10 ever came out.

Or you could partition your hard disk drive with multiple Operating System boot partitions and boot up whichever OS you want to use :)
