New Fusion control dial

Post by Jokeyman123 »

It may not match-and it sticks up a little too high-but I can get a good grip-more like a control knob now. I used a hole saw, drill press and some sanding/staining using a beautiful plank of cherry a wood-worker friend of mine gave me-and glued this on top of another thin increment dial-to get the D-sub style mount underneath. I don't remember what I used for the increment dial-these are easy to get-either a Roland or Zoom recorder dial-I had to sand it flat to get my wood disk mounted on it. Toughest part-centering the dial underneath on my wood dial. I used cyanoacrylate-crazy glue-and it sets almost immediately so had to get it centered just right. Looks a little funky-can always use the original dial but it has not been comfortable-sharp ridges on it get pretty annoying after awhile if you use it alot like I do, and every other dial I found that would fit in its place-looked cheap or didn't fit.

and then there were two...gads am I OCD-shaved a 1/2" off the one posted above-I have a good working bandsaw-now it does not stick up as much-and-I "redesigned" the now "redundant" leftover chrome hubcap and did something sacrilegious to it. Here it is. Unfortunately you can see the birthmarks for this from repeatedly prying out the dial-sloppy of me-I had to grind down the middle "nip" which was annoying me no end-that plus the relatively sharp rim around the top-a little crazy glue and a mini-clamp or two, done. Much more comfortable to twirl that dial now and it sits low enough to be unobtrusive, high enough to grab around the perimeter and twist it for smaller adjustments. I am considering custom hardwood endcaps, but the existing factory ones are pretty well made, substantial enough that I haven't felt the need. this is what happens when...
1) I am bored
2) I see anything that even slightly needs improvement, a curse and a blessing (grew up with engineers in the family-and woodworkers)
3) I insulated and installed heat for my modest workshop-and finally tuned up my bandsaw.

God only knows what I might do next!!!! Maybe make some of those horrible "bear" cutouts that people think scare the bears away-I don't think so.....only gives the deer something to sharpen their antlers with-and the turkeys hammer them, I think just for spite, turkeys can be pretty hostile sometimes but that's another post in a different user group I guess. They cornered me in my garage once when I first got out here, was at least ten of them on that memorable day-gangs of PA........one of this gang put a dent in my bumper with his beak-sounded like someone was hitting an anvil with a hammer. Not kidding! Exciting though. wish I had the Fusion back then, I could have sampled the sound.......
