Yes you can flash the OS ROM that way, but as far as I know it is not possible to flash the boot ROM or the sound ROM that way.

For the boot ROM it is not important, but anyone who is updating will most likely need to update both the OS and also the sound ROM. And for that, they will need a CompactFlash card.

But if you do manage to flash the sound ROM that way, I will be very happy to be proven wrong.
