Favorites Bank?

Post by AK-Jake »

I use my Fusion(s) in a live setting, along with 4 other boards. I've discovered after 2 gigs with this setup that on some of the "big" songs we do ("big" meaning all 5 of my keyboards get used for specific sounds within one song), it takes too darn long for me to change all my boards to the next sound I need. (Change 1 sound per board x 5 boards = too much time. Take into account transposing, octave-shifting, adding/removing effects, etc., and things REALLY get time-consuming!!)

On several of my other boards I just programmed a "Favorites" bank, with sounds setup in banks geared toward each setlist, and each sound in order to the corresponding song in the setlist. I leave the Favorites bank open and when the song ends, it's a simple matter of one button press or one click of the bank-select wheel and that board is ready to go.

The Fusion, I've noticed, doesn't seem to have this feature....or does it? Can anyone enlighten me? For you live-giggers with multiple keyboard setups, how do you quickly shift between soundsets (across multiple banks) inbetween songs?

Thanks.

The favorites 'bank' is not actually a bank. If you'd like to play live and be able to change your sounds quickly, you should (in the fusion's current state) create your own banks and copy your sounds/mixes to these banks.

The favorites 'bank' would be a great feature, but it doesn't work as it actually should. You need to scroll past every sound until you get to the right sound, you can't do a locate+inc search because it isn't an actual bank.

If you pick a sound from your favorites, you go back to your main screen with your knobs on the display, and you open up your favs again through the category button, the program will automatically change, which is also very annoying.

Luckily we have a big hard drive we can store all our programs on, so it's not that bad at all. Just some redundancy of sounds - you just might not find back that particular sound you made and copied and modified one version of it and forgot to update all the others. Nobody's perfect right?

Oh and forgot to reply to your last question: try hooking up all keyboards through midi and send them patch changes through a sequencer or so? Should be done with a push of a button.

A good solution would be to use some bars in the song mode in your fusion, hit play and all keyboards will have selected the right patch, volume settings etc. provided that the keyboards accept midi program changes and are configured to listen to the right tracks etc.

Consider the "favorites" bank as a place you can highlight all your good patches, and then sort them into real banks depending on your setlist.

Aye, make a new bank with the sounds you need.

Another tip repeated elsewhere on the forum is to load the sounds you will need, complete with their FX routings, all into either a MIX or a SONG. Loading that MIX/SONG will pre-load all sounds then, once only. From then on you can select and switch between the sounds in it quickly by using the 1-8 buttons.

Searching sounds via Category (including Favorites) makes each sound immediately auditionable as you scroll past them... fine for FM/VA sounds, but laggy when scrolling past sample-based sounds.

Using LOC + INC is a pretty quick and intuitive way to go directly to a sound if you know where it is already.

Thanks for the replies.

I hate to sound like a whiner, but the Fusion is becoming less and less intuitive all the time, and more and more of a headache. Kind of like my Tritons. :(

I'll have to crack the manual and see if it's in there, but can anyone give me an easy run-down of creating my own bank and moving sounds in there? (Not to mention rearranging the order of the sounds once they're in this new bank fo mine?)

Sorry to necro an old post but I am having trouble figuring out how to make this work:

psionic sez:

"Loading that MIX/SONG will pre-load all sounds then, once only. From then on you can select and switch between the sounds in it quickly by using the 1-8 buttons."

I cannot figure out how to set the Song or Mix so that the 1-8 buttons actually make the change like this. Can anyone help me with this? Thanks!

I've never been able to make that work.

Its TRUE that all programs alotted to tracks in a song WILL load, when that song is called.

I've only been able to select them by going to the edit/tracks page and using the data wheel or <Inc> and <Dec> buttons

Yes, that is what I am using now. Thanks for the comeback. Seems ol' Psionic may have some cryptic knowledge denied to the rest of us that was lost in the sands of time.

Another question on the same (sort of) topic.

How does one create a NEW empty MIX? I have found that those keys DO work in a MIX but I cannot for the life of me figure out how to create a new MIX.

Maybe I should just edit the stupid disco MIXes that came with the system and make them something usable by me.

If you edit any mixes, be sure to save your version to a new mix in case you want to use or modify the factory mix again.

Heheh, most of those factory mixes are cringeworthy.
