Fusion PSU + some "other" Fusion PCBs

Post by parametric »

Just surfaced on ebay . . .

https://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/m.html?item= ... papi&rt=nc

Shipping charges probably unrealistically high for UK buyers . . . .

Tempted to buy the whole lot-I noticed the PSU yesterday-it is the older PSU with the smaller heatsinks, but at the end of the day....seriously considering-maybe the mainboard too, might eliminate the "serial number" foobar on my one 8HD, but maybe not. and....at the end of the day....these might be all gone, tough decisions to make, I've invested so much already in restoring my 2 8HD's. Might worth ti though to keep an "onsite inventory" for anyone besides me that might need one of these parts but would add up to the price of a full 6 or 8HD!

It is expensive for the older board-thought about buying the other partially incomplete 8HD on eBay for parts-but even 400.00 plus shipping seems high for an incomplete-it is missing one of the audio in/out boards, can't tell which from pictures.

InstrumentalParts have PSU -9-79-0361 described as <New> for $149.50

Worldwide Shipping ~$65

(inside the US - obviously much cheaper)

E3s also @ $69 - also described as <New> (marked <Alesis>)

Chris, there is the difficulty-if you look at the Instrumentalparts listing, you notice, there is no "add to cart" logo below either version of the PSU-when I click on the items, it describes sending an email to notify me when the part will become available. A direct phone or email to their guy who got me the mainboards might prove otherwise, but if their website listing is accurate it looks like they don't have any more Fusion PSU's. And I am tempted to buy this ebayer's mainboard to eliminate the serial number error problem I never could solve, but then might end up with the same problem all over again, not sure its worth 165 US to take that chance. Sure beats the InMusic 330 dollar price for what turned out to be a questionable and probably "new oldstock" mainboard but at least it still works.

And....I am still holding onto my 2 partially functioning Fusion mainboards, which did not throw out the serial number foobar...but had other odd malfunctions I could not solve, in the (probably vain) hope that I will stumble upon some rocket scientist repair guru who would be able to troubleshoot and repair these, which obviously will become even more rare than they are now....like trying to bring back the dodo bird or sabertooth tiger. Sigh, so close and yet so far. Now I know (slightly) how the Apollo 13 astronauts must have felt when they knew they had to turn back from visiting the moon. And duct tape, a plastic bag and some aluminum foil did not work either.

I really don't think that a different mainboard will solve the registering problem . . .

THAT can only be solved by building that "Service Key Adaptor Cable" and try with a barcode

scanner. The problem (apart from not knowing WHAT scanner was used) is that it was

obviously a 9-pin D-sub Type - now long gone . . . . I guess replaced by the later USB type?

I would like to think that, if you made the usb connections available - as "wires" - that when

you touch the "correct two" to the appropriate pins in the adaptor - then BANG! - the Ser.

Number would go in!

I have ONE final line of enquiry to try . . . . . . I'll let you know if it results in anything useful

N.B. - here is a 9-pin D-sub scanner . . . . might work?

I had thought about these, but this is the first one I've seen with a USB and 9-pin D-sub connector-i have older laptops with D-sub connectors-might find a use for one of these with a laptop even if I can't get the serial number problem solved. I play both 8HDs almost every day-and the one with the foobar serial number prompt continues to work fine, but if I needed to sell it, would certainly be hard to explain this weird problem to anyone else. by the way, i just posted on the Alesis Fusion facebook page, answering someone's troubleshooting question, and directed them here. Was regarding a voice engine error message which they were not coming to grips with. How someone with a Fusion has not found their way here, with the wealth of info jesse and yourself have been providing is very odd, at least to me! But then being a lefty, I sometimes look at things a little in reverse from others. Why I like the looks of the Fusion and others seem to find it repulsive.... :ugeek: :ugeek: :ugeek:

Yes i will pay you for your work jesse. I just don't have time still trying to finalize my deceased mom's estate business. And the scanner, I will look these over later today and purchase one. This way, I f I ever needed to replace another mainboard-if this error recurred, would be good to have this solution.

I just ordered enough parts to build (4) key adapters, I figured if I am going build one I might as well make it worth my time and build four.

Might take me awhile, but I'll let you know when they are completed.

Excellent. Seems a shame, had to go through all this. Never know-to keep these Fusions going-if someone else runs into the same mainboard problem, and this solution works.
