Hi
I recently upgraded the hard drive to an SSD. So I have a blank drive now. In the alesis_fusion_list_data_v.1.20 PDF it shows that some of the factory multi samples ie. Piano,Chromatic, organ, ethnic, wave, guitar are put on the hard drive. I have them on a backup but since I bought the synth used it was always missing the samples for the Chromatic multisamples so I tried to do an os upgrade to 1.24 thinking it might put these on the hard drive but it didn't. My question is, were these put on during anos update or were they provided separately as a download.

Something is wrong, shouldn't be anything missing, the multisamples exist with the OS upgrade. I upgraded both my 8HD's from OS 1.20, everything came through. Could there be an error with the original older OS that is causing this problem although each succeeding OS should overwrite the previous as long as you load the full 64Mb files. Are you loading the smaller, or the larger 1.24 OS file? There is the small version-which only updates the functions, but not the sounds, samples, multisamples, it is 2,824 Kb (2.8Mb). If you use this one, whatever content is missing will still be missing. You need to load the full 1.24 OS binary. I assume you know both procedures for updating-either with an inserted CF card, or alternatively loading the OS into the hard drive via USB, and installing it using that procedure? There are 2 different procedures for doing this, not quite the same. If you need the docs for either or both procedures, I have these archived thanks to Jesse for doing all this original documentation archiving here. I also have the binaries for every OS, from OS 1.20, 1.21, 1.22, 123 and of course 1.24. I also saved the doc that detail the incremental updates-but does not list samples and multisamples, only the functions (and bugs) that were improved or fixed with succeeding updates-not an easy read, there were dozens! I've attached it in case you are interested and have some time to kill in 2025, quite a way to start the New Year. alot of this info is available right here, just look for jesse's posts about the OS's. Hope this info helps. Happy New Year.

?? Jesse sounds right, the file he mentions can be installed like any other add-in file (Hollow sun packs, V-stream, etc.) and will easily fit onto the internal hard drive as will thousands of addtional sounds. I know, I've done this and have bank 5 installed. As far as external drives-there is no way to connect an external drive to the fusion, much less several-the rear external SATA port does not work, and only one internal hard drive can be installed in the Fusions, due to the nature of its internal bus-like a computer, unless you have a "Raid" multi-hard drive configuration in a computer and the operating system to match, you can't install multiple drives in a computer either. and the CF card slot in the back of the Fusion-again can only "see" one CF card and can only read up t a 4GB external CF card-so connecting multiple drives to the CF card slot will also be pretty useless. Unlike a computer with a usb port, which can see several external drives at once in a Windows or Linux-based computer system, the Fusion is not capable of doing that. If it were, many of us would have done this a long time ago!
.
Perhaps jasmine you are describing saving the entire contents of the Fusion's internal drive to an external computer drive, which is very easy-I have both my fusion's complete contents saved to several laptops' internal drives as a backup-I think the entire contents of my Fusions only take up about 8+GB of data, including around 70 or so compositions and over 1500 midi files. even a CF card inserted into the fusions back slot can hold at least over one thousand midi files, which are typically very small. My one collection of 1500+ midi files stored in my Fusions takes up roughly 240MB. The entire contents of the Preset 5 bank only takes up 24MB! and that is including the new samples in it. Hardly a problem for the fusion to store.
The Alesis Fusion does not have the luxury of a functional external drive, but multiple CF cards up to 4 GB each can be created for various Gigs safely stored off line until needed then copied to the Fusion hard disk drive when needed.
Most modern hard disk drives have auto park heads to prevent damage to data when not being used.

Personally, I'm scarred from decades of disk failure events, so I would never do it. And, I guess, a certain amount of superstition. Instead, I would get an external drive that can accommodate two or four (mine is four) SSDs and install libraries on it if you require portability and transferability.
This could be done with the Alesis Fusion by running the HHD data cable & power supply with an IDE to PATA SSD adapter to the outside of the Fusion and only connecting an SSD drive to it when it is being used

If all goes well my Fusion 8HD should arrive in a few hours. After initial tests I may update the OS if necessary and I would also like to restore it...
