I would reinstall the OS v1.24 just for GP, the file you need to copy to your CF card so can copy the OS 1.24 to your Fusion is number seven in the list https://www.mediafire.com/file/6t1x133y ... 4.bin/file
When you get a chance to open up the Fusion check all the connections - disconnect them and reconnect them if possible (some connectors are glued to prevent them from coming lose, but oxidastion can still occur),check the power supply outputs with a Volt meter. unfortunately solder connections were made with lead free solder :(

Take Care ... Jesse

Thanks Jesse...opening up the unit right now to check for bad or cold solder joints and connectors..I did replace the PS several years ago when you helped me with that one.

Does anyone even fix these anymore as I am just married to the lead guitar sounds ?

Also of interest...when I first bought the Fusion way back when I got the same invalid OS message when I was farting around doing some sampling...it powered right back up that time...needless to say I have never touched the sampler button again !

Adding to this thread...I tried the Cf reinstall and it would not boot.

An acquaintance of mine in Santa Monica did Alesis repair several years ago at shop he worked at and he did in fact say he saw phenomenoms with "low battery" that could cause the OS not to boot. My battery is 16 years old...most likely dead, or worse...a very low impedance.

I opened the case of the HD6 and the battery didn't jump out at me so I am hoping someone can me where it is....as I don't want to unscrew things I don't need to cuz it looks like some of the phillips head screws are stripped (yikes)....not to mention risk of metal shavings.

Any help...

The battery is soldered onto the main PCB, it has three prongs
Mine is 19 years old so I will need to replace them in the 3 Alesis Fusion 8HD's I have soon :(

Re: Invalid OS on power up

Ok....so here I go again...starting from scratch!

My first attempt did nothing about 2 months ago and did not recognize the cf card on power up.

I bought a new CF card reader and a new CF card.

I just formated the cf card (FAT), and put the bin file (the 62M version) into the root of the cf card.

Big question before I put the cf card into the fusion and hit the power switch...

Do I need to hold down any buttons on power up. I looked at an old thread from when "Paul" had a similar "no OS" problem and got it fixed but it wasn't clear if he held any buttons down or not on initial power up.

And also, if the OS update works, can I then remove the CF card for good ?

Please let me know !

Thanks in advance....

Yes, that is only used to install the OS update once that is done you can remove the CF card :)

Good news maybe ????

The error message has changed from "invalid OS" to "can't read OS".

Am I supposed to hold down any buttons on power up ?

I did not at this point and didn't want to mess anything up.

I did use the 62M file formatted as FAT.

Should I try the smaller file which is OS only ?...not sure I have that one

CF card goes in only one way..right...like a keyway.

The cf card I got isn't clear with the way the stickers are applied.

I feel like a dope

Right-just be careful with the CF card-if it isn't slotted in just right, it will not insert, and if forced you will bend pins inside the CF card socket. even if you have it oriented correctly-I usually have to "easy does it" until I feel it is going in without too much pressure, should require only a very slight push to get it right. The label side is on top. If you have no label on your card, you will find a very narrow ridge protruding along the bottom back edge of the CF card as part of the design on every CF card I've owned. Factory CF cards such as Sandisk, Kingston, etc will have the name label on top, a blank index label on the bottom.

You may want to read these old posts (link below). It reminded me, you have to format the CF card in the Fusion to get the OS to boot from the card. If you simply formatted the CF card in Windows, it will not work. these topics are repeating much that has been already covered here, but there are few details that might help you.

Yes, I am gentle like a butterfly....you should see even when I change my own oil I treat the drain plug like a baby !

I am hoping to get clarification before I power on again if/what buttons I should hold down.

I got a new error message which I treat as a good sign...now says "can't read" verses "invalid" OS.

It seems I have the same problem "Paul" had a few years back (different thread) and I feel I am so close I don't want to screw anything up.

I held NO buttons down on my first attempt at re-installing.

I may be in big fat trouble as my fusion won't boot.

I could have sworn some guy named "Paul" had the same problem as he was able to get windows to format the card as FAT.

I am going to see if I can find those threads.

If it came down to it, could I send one of you guys my cf card that you can format in a working fusion ?

Jesse/Jokeyman/Parametric/and everyone else who provided input:

SUCCESS !!!

You guys are great...it uis so nice to have total strangers gice up some of their time and provide help...I was this close to assuming I had a dead duck on my hands.

O ce I re read the instructions and realized I did have to hold down B+7....

It worked....

(of course we were having a thunderstorm and I was pooping my pants hoping there would not be a power outage during the process (I think I aged 5 years)).
